Population Report
Records are made to be broken...but this one has stood for 42 years ... and counting. Wayne Gretzky did not break it. Mario Lemieux did not break it. It was such a feat that it was recently voted one of the Top Moments in NHL History during the NHL's Centennial Celebration.
On February 7, 1976, Toronto Maple Leafs captain Darryl Sittler broke one of the iconic records in professional hockey when he registered 10 points, six goals and four assists, in one 60-minute National Hockey League game. He notched 10 points in Toronto's 11-4 rout of the Boston Bruins at Maple Leaf Gardens. The previous NHL record for points in one game was 8, first set by Montreal Canadiens Hall of Famer Maurice Richard when he recorded five goals and three assists vs. Detroit on December 28, 1944, and tied by Montreal's Bert Olmstead (four goals, four assists) vs. Chicago on January 9, 1954.
The Bruins came into Maple Leaf Gardens with a seven-game winning streak, and the Leafs entered the game with only one victory in their previous seven games.
Sittler ended the first period with 2 assists, on goals by Lanny McDonald and Ian Turnbull.
Sittler had a 5-point second period. He popped 3 goals past Bruins goalkeeper Dave Reece, and assisted on two Borje Salming goals.
He needed only one point to tie the NHL record going into the third period and he did that quickly, scoring his fourth goal of the game 44 seconds into the third period. He broke the record at 9:27 of the third period with his fifth goal of the game. And he tied another NHL record when he scored No. 6 for the night, his 10th point, at 16:35 of the third period.
Sittler finished his Hall of Fame career with 484 goals, 637 assists, and 1,121 points in 1,096 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, and Detroit Red Wings.
Sittler was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989, and as part of the National Hockey League's Centennial celebration he was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL players.

Provenance
This jersey was believed to have been gifted by Maple Leafs owner Harold Ballard after Sittler's feat. The jersey moved from the original owner and landed in the collection of a sports memorabilia dealer in the mid 1990's. The jersey remained in that collection until 2016, when it was sold to a private collector. MeiGray acquired the jersey from that collector in January 2017
MeiGray Vintage Report
