Alexander Ovechkin has already scored more than 400 goals in his NHL career. When you think of his personal highlight reel, there is one goal that universally stands out. He scored it during his Calder Trophy-winning rookie season, on January 16, 2006 at the Glendale (now Jobing.com) Arena. He amazed the hockey world with a sliding, rolling, scintillating flat-on-his-back backhand sweep of a shot past Phoenix Coyotes goalie Brian Boucher that epitomized his skill, concentration, and determination.

This jersey is 1 of 15 Alexander Ovechkin wore during the 2005-06 National Hockey League season. Each was authenticated by the NHL-MeiGray Game-Worn Authentication Program and listed below in our annual Population Report..

The garment's path to Ovechkin's back began in the summer of 2004, when the blank (unlettered and unnumbered) jersey was manufactured by Reebok in their Quebec, Canada factory. The NHL-MGG Game-Worn Authentication Program security tag was then sewn into this and every other jersey prepared for the Washington Capitals. The jerseys were inventoried, and the numbers/colors/sizes were logged.

The 2004-05 NHL season was cancelled due to the lockout, so these jerseys were shipped to the Capitals for the 2005-06 NHL season. A "2005-2006 SEASON" patch was sewn next to the NHL/MGG authentication tag, to indicate that they were used not in 2004-05, the season which did not take place, but in 2005-06.

This jersey authenticated by the NHL-MGG Game-Worn Authentication program as C10516, Ovechkin's White Set 2, was worn in games from January 10, 2006 through March 4, 2006. This was Ovechkin's only White Set 2 jersey. The jersey was worn in 11 games. Ovechkin scored 12 goals and added 5 assists for 17 points while wearing this jersey. Ovechkin recorded his first NHL hat trick and first overtime goal while wearing this jersey on January 13, 2006 in the Capitals' 3-2 OT win over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
