The jersey exhibits the NHL Cares Katrina Relief Fund patch on the front right breast. The jersey was worn and then auctioned to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which struck the southeastern United States from August 23, 2005 through September 3, 2005. The storm peaked on August 28 and proved to be the costliest and one of the five most deadliest natural disasters to ever strike the United States.
