NEW YORK _ The NHL-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program will not be extended beyond the 2005-2006 season as a league-driven initiative, the NHL has announced.

The NHL has recommended MeiGray, the Game Worn jersey industry worldwide leader, to its Member Clubs as a partner for sale and distribution of their game-worn jerseys.

“While we may look to revisit this program at a later date, we have determined that a single program featuring the participation of all 30 clubs is not practical at this time,” said Brian Jennings, Group VP, Consumer Products Marketing. “MeiGray has been an exceptional partner to the NHL throughout the current agreement. We have full confidence regarding their industry knowledge and solid reputation. We continue to recommend MeiGray highly.”

The NHL-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program, which debuted in October 2002, authenticated and security-tagged the jerseys worn by 22 of the 30 NHL teams from 2002-03 through 2005-06.

Beginning in 2006-07, MeiGray will be working with Atlanta, Boston, Colorado, Dallas, Edmonton, Florida, Montreal, Nashville, New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Ottawa, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Toronto, Vancouver, and Washington. Each team will structure its individual game-worn jersey program with MeiGray to best suit its fans and the collecting public.

“We are extremely grateful that the NHL in 2002 became the first professional league to take the major step of ensuring absolute authenticity in the game-worn world,” said MeiGray COO Barry Meisel. “And we are extremely gratified that the NHL has asked us to continue this level of authentication directly with its member clubs.

“We will tailor each team’s program to best serve its fans and collectors, while offering these teams our system of absolute authenticity and protection. It is our hope that one day soon all 30 clubs will use our security and authentication system, which we believe best protects game-worn collectors around the world.”

Authenticated jerseys from 2002-2003 through 2005-2006 will continue to be marketed by MeiGray and the NHL-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Program at nhlgameworn.com. The 22 program teams are Anaheim, Atlanta, Boston, Buffalo, Calgary, Colorado, Dallas, Edmonton, Florida, Los Angeles, Montreal, Nashville, New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Ottawa, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Vancouver and Washington.
