MEIGRAY GROUP AND EDMONTON OILERS AUCTION GRETZKY RETIREMENT NIGHT SET OF JERSEYS
On the evening of October 1, 1999, a capacity crowd gathered at Skyreach Centre to celebrate the career of the great Wayne Gretzky. The Edmonton Oilers honored The Great One by lifting his No. 99 to the rafters of the building in which he led the Oilers to four Stanley Cups.
To commemorate this great evening, which opened the 1999-2000 NHL regular season, the Edmonton Oilers wore three sets of jerseys during their 1-1 overtime tie with the New York Rangers. Each jersey was specially tagged by the Oilers, with Wayne Gretzkys facsimile autograph, the date of the game, and the marking Set 2/A, B or C, to indicate the first, second and third period sets of jerseys. The Oilers are now proud to auction the complete set of twenty-five jerseys prepared for and worn by the team during the first period of this historic game: Set 2A.
