Woods won his third U.S. Open and 14th major title by defeating Rocco Mediate on the first hole of sudden death play following an 18-hole playoff. Woods shot a one-under 70 in the Third Round to grab a one-stroke lead heading into his Open-winning final round and finished the tournament with an even-par 71. With the victory, Woods joined Jack Nicklaus as the only golfers to win the Grand Slam three times.

Woods went 11 years between major wins from his 2008 US Open victory to his 2019 Masters victory - the longest gap between major wins in the history of professional golf. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom after winning his fifth green jacket and 15th major in the 2019 Masters.
