Offered here is one of the rarest New York Rangers jerseys to exist ... from a heartbreaking special time.

The events of September 11, 2001 brought the sporting world to a halt, especially for teams playing in New York City. The National Hockey League's schedule was not delayed like Major League Baseball's or the National Football League's as the season had not started, but teams found ways to honor those that had lost their lives.

Captain Mark Messier donned a New York Fire Department firefighter's helmet as the Rangers entered the Madison Square Garden ice for their home opener on October 7, 2001. In a show of solidarity, the Buffalo Sabres wore special white jerseys with New York on the front while the Rangers wore their blue shirts that said the same.

This jersey was prepared for Tomas Kloucek's use in that game, a 5-4 Rangers victory on Brian Leetch's overtime goal. It includes the red, white and blue Twin Towers ribbon on the left shoulder. Kloucek did not play in the game.

Kloucek played in 141 NHL games from 2000 through 2006, contributing two goals and eight assists. He played in the Czech, Russian, Slovak, and French leagues following his NHL days through 2016-17.
