Blue, World Cup of Hockey, Pre-Tournament Worn
Team USA 1996
#28 Size: 56

The first World Cup of Hockey saw Team USA pull off its most memorable victory since the Miracle On Ice.

Eight countries participated in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey from August 26 to September 14: Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, and the United States. The tournament replaced the Canada Cup as the world's premier international hockey tournament.

New Jersey Devils defenseman Shawn Chambers wore this jersey in Team USA's August 20 pre-tournament victory.

This jersey has been authenticated by the USA Hockey-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Program and will come with a Letter of Authenticity from USA Hockey.

Hired by New Jersey Devils General Manager Lou Lamoriello, who served as Team USA's GM, Ron Wilson was the perfect coach for Team USA. The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim head coach understood the importance of team speed and skill, as well as physicality. Wilson knew Team USA would have to display both in order to beat the tournament favorites, Team Canada.

Team USA defeated Russia, 5-2, in the single-elimination Semifinals. Canada took Game 1 of the best-of-three Finals in overtime, 4-3, but Team USA posted sequential 5-2 victories to win its fourth and most recent international Gold Medal. Team USA previously won Gold at the 1933 and 1960 IIHF World Championships and in the 1960 and 1980 Winter Olympics.
