The Predators added the Covenant School Patch to their jerseys for the first time on April 1, 2023 to honor the three adults and three children who lost their lives in the mass shooting at the Presbyterian Church in America parochial elementary school in Nashville's Green Hills neighborhood.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Predators jerseys with the Covenant School Patch will be donated to the Caring for Covenant Fund to support the healing of those affected by this tragedy.

Afanasyev made his NHL debut during the 22-23 season. He played 17 games for the Predators and scored his first career goal on April 10, 2023 against the Calgary Flames. He also played in 57 games for the Milwaukee Admirals, scoring 13 goals and 13 assists, then added another ten points in 16 games in the Calder Cup playoffs.
